Suicide

If you or someone you know is contemplating committing suicide, please call the National Suicide Hotline toll-free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at (800) 273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) for support and direction. For additional information about suicide prevention resources, including a list of suicide hotline numbers organized by U.S. city and state, please visit the website at www.suicidehotlines.com. If someone is in imminent danger, please call 911 or the local police for immediate help.

Child Abuse

If you or someone you know is under the age of 18 and is being physically, emotionally, or sexually abused and/or neglected, please call the Los Angles County Child Abuse Hotline at (800) 540-4000 to report the incident. Anonymous calls are accepted; however, you must have the child’s address in order for the Department of Children and Family Services to take your report. If you are not sure whether a particular incident is reportable, you may call for a consultation. If you live in a different county, call 411 for the hotline number in your area.  If you need help or have questions about child abuse or neglect and live in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands, call the Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline at (800) 4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) or visit their web site at www.childhelp.org.

Elder Abuse

If you or someone you know is age 65 or over and is being emotionally, physically, sexually, or financially abused, neglected, and/or exploited, please call the Los Angeles County Elder Abuse Hotline at (877) 477-3646 to report an incident or receive consultation about a particular situation. If you live in a different county, call 411 for the hotline number in your area. For additional information about elder abuse resources, including a list of hotline numbers organized by U.S. city and state, please call the National Center on Elder Abuse at (800) 677-1116 or visit their web site at www.ncea.aoa.gov.

Domestic Violence

If you or someone you know is being physically or emotionally abused and/or intimidated by a domestic partner, please call the Domestic Violence Hotline servicing Southern California at (800) 978-3600 for direction, support, and information about the domestic violence shelters serving your community.  For crisis intervention, safety planning, information, and referrals to agencies in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands please call The National Domestic Violence Hotline at (800) 799-SAFE (1-800-799-7233) or visit their web site at www.ndvh.org.

Safe Haven in California

California Law allows mothers to relinquish all of their parental rights by giving up the baby with no legal consequences for up to 72 hours following the baby’s birth. The baby may be turned in to the staff at a hospital emergency room or a fire station. If you or someone you know is pregnant, is not ready to be a mother, and has plans to harm the baby, please call Safe Haven Hotline at (877) 725-5111 for detailed information. All calls may be made anonymously.
